Coral Stephens was founded on mohair curtaining.  It is our specialty and passion, and as always follows an entirely handmade process, from spinning and dyeing to weaving. Mohair is sourced from the Eastern Cape area of South Africa; it comes from the Angora goat which has been extensively farmed in the nearby Karoo for more than 100 years. Mohair yarn is ideal for curtaining: it drapes well but remains light, and has a rich reflective lustre.  Whether dyed in a rich, plain colour or left in its natural chalk state, it performs beautifully.  It is also highly durable and being an organic fibre is an excellent insulator and will add style to any room.  Hand spinning brings a subtle edge to the fabric as it creates a unique flow and feel which can never be replicated by a machine made fibre. We supply fabric only, a curtain maker would need to make and install.  Wide curtain tapes or hand pleating is recommended, hang out for as long as possible to allow the fabric to settle before hemming.

Curtaining should be made up by a reputable curtain maker and requires lining to preserve its colour and structure. Dry clean infrequently.  Can be steam ironed. Our mohair is moth-proofed, but does not guarantee against future damage. We supply in cut lengths/panels or by the roll.
